Goducate’s work in several provinces across The Philippines means that online communication between its various workers and different platforms is essential. Thus DigiHwy was set up and registered in June 2021.
Before that, I and another Camp Goducate staff member had been entering communities, schools, and churches, bringing different platforms such as health, sports, literacy, team building, and leadership trainings. When the Covid-19 pandemic struck we began offering remote help as churches and ministries started going online. What we did ranged from simple graphics design to video editing, to hardware support in live streaming, and to organizing webinars.
We started receiving inquiries from friends who wanted to connect with their families who were in rural areas. As the number of inquiries and referrals grew, we trained others with technical skills to help us. Our team has been able to serve different groups---from children struggling with online classes, to island communities with no signal at all, and to mountain communities without any cellphone signal.
Along the way, we made several innovations to make our service more accessible and affordable. In 2021, we registered DigiHwy as the company that would provide our services.
We also upgraded our services. Instead of only installing internet connectivity, we added small solar systems to support the internet infrastructure, because remote areas were experiencing frequent outages. Our hardware system was also set up across the country as we trained local partners online on installation.
We have been helping mostly pastors and churches who were transitioning online and also schools. Some Goducate partners were able to continue their online classes and bible studies because they had reliable connectivity. Thus from 2020 to 2022, we served more than 5000 individuals through our shared wifi services.
